Good morning all,
I've started to mess around with taking apart phones (I've done it before but always as a curiosity than anything else) and have gathered a good bit of knowledge on the matter. I can take a part a phone and put it back together in working condition without any issues whatsoever, so my father thought he'd see if I could fix some of the phones he had lying around. There are three of them, and all three phones have the same issues. There are two Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3's and a Samsung Galaxy Mega. All three phones were dropped a total of phone times, and all three phones register zero touch input from any angle, pressure, or location, with the exception of one Idol 3 (more on that later).
I've already taken apart one of the Idol 3, the one that was in worst condition, and as far as I can tell I'd have to replace the entire display assembly. The digitizer is shot and there's no way for me to separate the display and digitizer, so I have to replace the whole thing (not worth it by the way). The Galaxy Mega is a little stranger. I figure the digitizer is gone on that as well, but the phone actually appears to believe it is overheating 99% of the time. I can get it to boot up but it won't stay on for more than a few minutes before shutting down. The last Idol 3 actually does register touch, but only in the upper left hand corner. I haven't taken that one apart yet but I would assume that all three would require new display assemblies. I just want to see what more experienced members in our community have to say, as I don't claim to be any sort of professional. If I can fix even one of these guys without too much hassle I'll be pretty proud of myself.
