[Q] "su" command not working in "adb shell"

I use an ALCATEL ONETOUCH Pop C1 to mess about with various root features.
I recently attempted to install Chainfire 3D and am stuck with a loop boot screen.
To fix this, I connected it to my PC and booted up adb.
The device appears and my drivers are up-to-date.
When I enter "adb shell" the $ prefix appears.
When I enter "su" to change the prefix to # and gain superuser access this appears:

And then it goes back to

Code:
1::/ $

as the prefix.
I seem to remember a pop up appearing on the android device asking to grant SuperUser access and you have to confirm, but as I am stuck on a loop boot no pop-up appears.
I have tried the same whilst in recovery mode.

If anyone can help it will be greatly appreciated.
