Let me start off by saying that I'm disappointed with the way smartphones are heading towards nowadays. Once upon a time you could get a beautiful HD2, a breathtaking smartphone, and turn it into this magical thing that booted every OS out there. Or you could get the elegant HTC Dream and have the most outstanding qwerty phone, that would run Android and handle anything you threw at it(desktop linux in chroot environment bla bla bla). But it seems that development like that has ceased, most big OS-owning companies now natively offering what you needed to work for in order to get. I must admit I was out of the scene for a few years myself, but since I actually started studying computer science(now being 20 years old) I thought I'd actually do something fun myself.
Now that my stupid little rant is over: I recently got my hands on a Nokia N810. I fell in love with Maemo instantly. This is what I needed. I fiddled so much around with it, even learned how to port stuff for ARM architectures(only did a few packages, then I played League :3 ). So I decided to replace my (what I consider now to be unsightly) HTC M8 For Windows with the Nokia N900(which I am expecting any day now). However, I am sad to say that the Maemo community is kinda dead right now. So I want to pick up unfinished work and finish it myself. What I'm looking for is pointers on where to start. Huh, I could update the title with this. Anyway, as far as the latest port of Ubuntu goes(9.10), over at the Maemo/talk forums they have the following listed as not working:
- Watchdog kicker
- Cellular modem
- Accelerated X
This work was started by user MohammadAG.
I'm really looking to put in the time and effort to learn how to do all this and revive/complete this project! But I can't seem to find where to start from. :S
